On October 29th and 30th, 13 Wellington High School students participated in the 2012 Pumpkin Decorating Competition sponsored by Wellington’s National Art Honors Society.

Three judges chose first and second place winners on Wednesday morning; first place went to students Karey Calderon and Justin Morrisette for “Zombie Family,” and second place was awarded to Jessica Capote for her piece “Whooo’s So Serious?”

“I was surprised, but really happy,” Karey Calderon, senior, said.

Students also voted for their favorite carving during both lunches. Over 200 students participated.

“We didn’t expect so many people to vote,” Karey says. “It was great to have another group besides SGA have a chance at hosting a school activity. It was only our first year but we had an amazing turn out!”

The people’s choice award went to Jordan Tadleman or “Creeper Explosion.
