Lady Wolverines Lacrosse District Championship

Tensions were sky high when the Park Vista Cobras came into Wellingtons den to face the women’s varsity lacrosse team. Vista came to extract revenge on the Wolverines, who had triumphed in last years district championship. Wellington’s biggest rivals are the Cobras; they have had long history of hard fought, aggressive games.

During the district championship this year, Park Vista’s player #2 was carried off the field after a check from Wellington. The emotions on the field were transferred into the stands and fueled arguments among parents.

During a pre game conference with Wellington’s coach Kolshak, she expressed her confidence stating, “we are going to win of course.”

Her statement looked promising after Wellington’s own Monica Shell scored the first goal from an assist from Cassidy Flechaus. After the wolverines jumped out to an early lead, the Cobras struck back, leaving Wellington in the dust with a and led 9 to 4 with ten seconds left in the half. At this point the Cobras got the draw but didn’t succeed in scoring their tenth goal.

Despite the fact that Wellington was losing, Coach Kolshak expressed “Park Vista has a lot of talent, but we have more heart.”

Heading into the second half with the lead, the Cobras were hungry and they were showed it. Despite being down on the scoreboard, Wellington came out aggressively. The score was 10 to 4 with fifteen minutes left into the second half.

The game stayed aggressive throughout the entire half forcing lots of penalty calls. At four minutes left there was a timeout by Park Vista. As the teams re entered the field, a massive chant from the Wellington fans resonated from the stands. The last four minutes lasted a very long time, with constant stopping for aggressive play forcing the referees to extend the game because of the stoppage of play for penalties. The game ended 16 to 6 for Park Vista closing out a successful season for the Lady Wolverines who finished with 10 wins.
