Major League Baseball Season Drawing To A Close

Brett Pizzi, Staff Writer

As major league baseball draws closer and closer to the end of the 2012 season, the big question that everyone wants to know is: which teams will make the final push to the postseason? With the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers claiming an 87-59 record, Texas could very well enter the postseason tops in the AL. Meanwhile with an MLB leading 89-57 record, the rising Washington Nationals are standing strong atop the National League. However, with the Nats recently shutting down ace Stephen Strausburg for the year, who knows where they’ll end up.

Of course, you can never count out the Wild Card teams; especially considering the St. Louis Cardinals erased an enormous deficit last year, only to win the World Series. Starting this year, MLB is introducing an extra wild card team to both the American League and National League, increasing the playoff field to ten.  With teams like the Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals still in the hunt for those final Wild Card spots, the 2012 World Series title is completely up for grabs.

Of course, with the constant threat of injuries and upsets, the trophy could be anyone’s. The post season begins on October 5, 2012 and with regular season games still going on, one can only speculate the final standings. Until then, play ball!
