On October 7, 2019, Joshua Brown — a key witness in the murder trial of a Dallas resident by a former Dallas police officer– was gunned down in his apartment complex. He was shot 10 days after testifying for the murder trial against Amber Guyger.

The shooting took place in browns Dallas apartment complex, Atera Apartments. Brown was shot during a drug deal between Thaddeous Green, 22, and Jacquerious Mitchell, 20. Brown’s conversation with Green escalated and ended with Brown shooting Mitchell once and getting shot twice by Green.

Joshua Brown was a key witness to the trial of Guyger because he was able to provide an account of what happened during the night of the murder.

Amber Guyger

Botham Jean, a 26-year-old accountant, was killed when former officer Guyger mistook him as a burglar and shot him. She had walked into the wrong apartment, one floor above her unit.

That same night, Brown had returned home from a sports bar after watching a football game. He was there just in time to hear the altercation between Guyger and Jean, and immediately after, the gunshots.

Brown recalled that Guyger was talking on the phone in distress. She was trying to explain what had happened and what she thought happened. Guyger was walking back and forth into Jean’s apartment while crying.

Guyger was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison on October 2.
