On September 19 a Louisiana man drowned while proposing to his girlfriend outside of their underwater bedroom at the Manta Resort on Pemba Island, Tanzania.

Steve Weber Jr. left the underwater bedroom he shared with his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, and swam to the window without an air tank.

He showed a note that read, “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you.” On the back, he asked, “Will you marry me?” After this, Antoine saw Weber going up for air; however, he never came back.

Antoine ran to the top of their room, waiting to embrace him and tell him her answer. Unfortunately, Weber did not resurface. Antoine tried to grab the attention of someone from the resort but failed. She ended up flagging down some passing boaters to grab his body. They tried to revive him, but they were unsuccessful.

At this point in time, there is no cause of death on the autopsy. Family members don’t know if he hurt himself on the way back or if he had a heart attack.

“You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer,” Antoine wrote in an emotional Facebook post. “‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!'”
