Review: Taylor Swift’s “Lover”

Mattingly Sullivan, Staff Writer

Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album, “Lover,” on Friday, August 23. It has eighteen tracks, which is more than she has ever had on an album. The title “Lover” is perfect for this album–it’s romantic and raw.

This album is completely different than her last album, “Reputation.” She wrote “Reputation” when she was in a bad time in her life. She was rising up from the worst backlash she has ever faced. This era was very dark, her wiping her social media, black and white album covers, her not doing interviews, and snakes being the biggest symbol of this album. But “Lover” is the complete opposite. This album is bright, has love songs, she’s been very active on social media, and she wrote songs towards her haters.

In my opinion, this album is some of her best work. The songs make you want to stop what you’re doing to shout the lyrics and dance. The lyrics are genius and poetic. Here are our top 5 favorite songs from the album:.

1. On the very top of the list is “Miss Americana and the Heartbreaker Prince.” This song is a favorite because the lyrics are so smart and thought out. Also, it has a beat that anyone can dance to. On a scale of 1-10, this song is a 10 in my personal opinion.

2. Next, a second favorite is “Paper Rings.” This song has an old-school jazz type of beat. The lyrics are again very thought out. On a scale of 1-10, this song is a 10.

3. Now for one of the more heartfelt songs, “Cornelia Street.” This song is soft and slow, also its a love song. This song is beautiful enough to be played at a wedding. On a scale of 1-10 I give this track a 9.

4. This song has a little bit of humor in it. It is entitled “London Boy.” This song is very fun. The humorous part is in the beginning when someone is talking in a british accent. This track is perfect if you want to dance. On a scale of 1-10, this is a 7 for me.

5. Last, is “The Man.” This song’s meaning is so good. Taylor talks about if her life would be easier being the opposite gender. This song is very powerful and fun. On a scale of 1-10, this song is an 8.

Now that you see a couple of her best songs ranked, I recommend you go and listen to the album!
