Mockingjay Part 2 Review

The final edition to the award-winning movie series The Hunger Games was released on November 20. Seeing as this was a popular choice in the box office and being a huge fan of the book series, I decided to give it a try.

The movie revolves around eighteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who in the previous movie, Mockingjay Part 1, under emotional distress caused by her star-crossed-lover and co-winner of the 74th Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson). When the overrun, dystopian Capital runs everything into the ground and begins a war, it is up to the previous victors of the Hunger Games to try and assassinate the mastermind behind the production, President Snow.

For those who didn’t read the book, the plot was amazing. None of it was comparable to the book. It was almost like the Lionsgate producers didn’t bother to pick it up. Viewing the movie apart from its predecessor made it more enjoyable.

The action in this movie was simply spectacular. There were scenes when Katniss would be fighting some Capitol soldiers or President Snow himself that were masterfully done. It all had great suspense built into it.

Finally, the acting in this movie was above expectations for a Lionsgate movie. Jennifer Lawrence did an amazing job as Katniss, just like she did in the other 3 movies. Josh Hutcherson also did a pretty good job as Peeta this time around, but his performance was not as good as it was in The Hunger Games or Catching Fire. One surprise actor that did an above average job was Elizabeth Banks, the actress who played the flamboyant Effie Tricket.

Overall, Mockingjay Part 2 did a respectable job of wrapping up the series. Between all of the components, the movie ended up stunning both book and movie fans. I give this movie 3.5/5 stars.
