The ‘Hunger Games: MockingJay’ Review

The newest Hunger Games sequel, MockingJay Part 1, rated PG-13, was officially released to movie theaters across the United States on November 21st, 2014.

With the same main characters as the previous films, Katniss Everdeen played by Jennifer Lawrence and Peeta Mellark played by Josh Hutcherson, this movie shot through the roof with viewers. Also starring in MockingJay are the returning actors Liam Hemsworth playing Gale Hawthorne, Wody Harrelson playing Haymitch Abernathy, and Donald Sutherland playing President Snow.

Viewers and fans were estatic upon the release of this film. Anticipation has been boiling since the last released film “Catching Fire” on November 22nd, 2013.

MockingJay had the biggest opening of the year with a whopping $123 million dollars at the weekend box office.

Although these numbers were high, they swooped way below the industries expectation. Catching Fire opened to $158.1 million, and the first Hunger Games opened to $152.5 million, which disappointed industry insidies.

Overall, MockingJay has received positive reviews, praising the plot and giving praise to the directors. An anonymous critic rated this movie a top pick for 2014.

In Catching Fire, Katniss and other tributes escaped from the 75th Quarter Quell Hunger Games, it caused rebellion within the people of the districts against the Capitol.

This action filled movie portrays rebellion while adding a twist of love and unison. It will keep viewers eyes peeled to the screen, feeling as if they are a part of the movie.

In the previous movie Catching Fire, Katniss directs a lightening rod toward a force field around the arena that sends the arena in flames. Many escape, but others are captured by the Capitol.

In MockingJay, the Capitol raises fury due to Katniss actions. The people in the districts are out to kill the people in the Capitol. Katniss’ action’s inspire a rebellion amongst the districts that cannot be tamed. War has begun.

With everything in dust and over hundreds of people dead, Katniss has to decide what to do next. Save the people; or join the Capitol?

Her decision will have many in awe.

MockingJay Part 1 is a must see film. Watching it to continue the series or just wanting to see an action movie, viewers will not be disappointed. After watching this film, people will be on their toes waiting for the unannounced release of MockingJay Part 2.
